We lived in a log home here in VA a few years back and you can imagine the concern that these pests caused. My solution was a badmitton racket by the front door. :) They hover around their nest to protect the eggs - I'd sneek up on them and "ping" ... the most beautiful sound as the now dissected bee parts go flying through the yard! I'd then ram a clotheshanger wire in the hole, shoot the holes with bee killer and WD40 ... did the trick in cutting the population.

Wish I'd known about this solution then ... and glad that my kids were too young at the time to record my actions ... especially when I missed the bee!
