There are a couple types of rear oil seals. I was in the process of starting to replace one and was dreading the work. Then I realized that the pan gasket was leaking.
The reason I suggest waiting to replace the seal is that this engine was brought back from the dead. It might be better to get a few miles on the engine before doing any work that would have to be be re-done if the engine needs re-building. Taking the pan off a second time is no big deal.
