Although not the make of the truck but the motor.
the motor is a 1951 De Soto 237 c.d.i
I agree that throwing parts is not a good way to go,
the first coil was not appropriate for vertical mounting and lost its oil, the other coils which are internal resistors were from a bad condenser, that took out the points, the new parts suffered the same fate as the new condenser was bad, coil and points,
the last set of points was my bad, i adjusted them with the wrong feller gauge, and it burn, new points again and I noticed that one of the towers of the cap was loose and when changing the cap noticed that had burnt the interior of the wire from arching (solid core wires), hence the new wires. checked the weights, they are free, carb was changed because it had an internal vacuum leak so I replaced it with a remanufactured unit.
Would you still consider that I am throwing parts at it? or have I done the proper steps?
