It turned out to be a badly crimped connector at the + side of the coil. I blamed the coils, condenser, carb due to I thought starving under load. Then one day while running, I wiggled all the wires and found the one that made it cut out. Case solved.

Months later, it would die at any stop sign. Tearing my hair out again. Turn out that I had left a un-needed wire dangling. The brake pedal would short it out when pressed towards the floor. Maybe brake wear lowered the pedal?

So, wiggle your wires. Also check the wire inside the cap that goes from the through-hull fitting to the points. That is a fersure good candidate. Also the wire from coil to that through-hull stud. Also the insulator sleeve around the through hull stud. Ground there will kill things.
