You need to check the bore and any areas where seals run, the rest doesn't matter much. These areas need to be smooth and relatively free of bad pitting. Replace any O-rings with the correct size/type and should be good to go. Any pitting will wear the o-rings, so if it's bad you would have to replace them more often, if they are minor and smooth (no sharp edges) they will often continue to work for years. If there's pitting a machine shop should be able to skim the bore to next standard size up, but will need to update piston and seals to suit.
