Mine runs rough if you start it with the grid heaters disconnected in cold weather but I have no idea at what temp it wouldn't start at all. It's a complicated system if it's not needed...for sure. I mean I've been racking my brain trying to think of a way of wiring in a grid heater to a truck with no ECM, using the temp sensor, the relays & maybe a timed switch or something similar...but is it worth it or just put it on a momentary switch & be done with it...or don't use them at all??
