that explains it. I loved the non granny NP435 I had in my dually flatbed D300. it was the best towing 4 speed I ever had. but in a 4x4 I wouldn't want it either.

re np420. the 1962 book has first gear at 6.68 on the NP 420 and 8.25 reverse. were the earlier ones actually different?
