I've had this idea roaming around my head for a long time & I met this guy yesterday that beat me to it!
He put a Cummins 6BT in an 83 Crewcab & basically restored the truck. He found a local shop here called Century Coatings that does blasting & powder coating & he stripped the 83 down, every nut & bolt & had them powder coat the whole truck!! Doors, hood, cab...the works!! Everything except the bed cost $700 to blast & powder coat white! I can't buy the paint for that much!
Anyway, I've had this idea for years but my thought was to do the cab only & then use the powder coat as primer & prep & re-spray the exterior. This is exactly what he did except he powder coated everything except the bed, then had the exterior prepped & resprayed with the bed because several of the panels needed bodywork.
So after doing everything, he said the only casualty was the hood skin got warped be he believes they warped it with the blasting.
Total cost...$700 in blasting & powder coat & then the body shop he used charged $2500 to prep & spray the whole truck including the bed.
It's nice...really nice. Nice enough that he got a collector plate for it & he only pays $250 a year for insurance now.
It'd be a great way to do a Power Wagon in my mind....no?
