I picked up my 318 for the 6x6 today, complete with a 1973 D200 cab and chassis. We flat towed it home, and I dropped it into 4th a couple times to turn the engine and circulate the oil. Within an hour of parking it we (the boys and I) had the engine running. The truck has sat for 19+ years.

Only one wire was nibbled leading to the coil, and the air filter saved the carburetor from being filled with squirrel chips. A little carb cleaner in the carb, pulled and cleaned the fuel pump, and the truck runs great.

Ironically, the water pump seal and bearing are bad, so I will rebuild it with the shorter style shaft and bearing, and I'll let you know how that goes. The alternator works well, as does the power steering pump.

The one thing that has me worried is that the oil pressure gauge appeared to work when I first started the engine, but after a few minutes it began to read less and less pressure. I don't know if it's a gauge problem, a sending unit problem, or a oil system problem. I've heard that the valve stem seals on these engines tend to get brittle, fall into the pan and clog the pump screen, which may be the case here. In any event, I will drop the pan and see what's going on.
