After experimenting, I can tell you that it can be done using an older, cast iron pump cartridge, and installing it into the aluminum, later housing. But, you MUST use the "honeycomb"-style later housing. Look at the snout of the aluminum pump. If you have the one with the cog-like/star-like fins in the snout around the front seal, it won't work- the bearing is a larger OD than the ones with the "honeycomb holes". I've yet to finish mine, though. Been busy.
