clueless here----wth

getting ready to fire her up and thought I would check the stroke length so took a plug out and put in a wood dowel and turned the motor---sure does not go up and down much distance but turns over nice and hisses as she comes up to top dead center

what am I missing here should get short of 4 in. for a 237-------right???

maybe it is a 218
