My father owned a 52, we had to replace the third member, I was only 15 at the time but I think we took a 3.55 out and put a member from a 50 new yorker in, 3.31 ratio, I don't think the rear cover came off, it was basicly like all the other 8 3/4's I've ever seen. but it's been a very long time.
