Not my cup of tea either. I would imagine they cut the whole section out anyway for clearance.
To give you an ides of what it could look like, see the pic. Granted, this was a factory stamped dash but looks a lot cleaner to me.
In their defense to all that say they are charging too much. Sounds like a good business venture for you to show how little it can be done for. I doubt you will see many taking that offer up.
No matter how much you do there will always be someone picking it apart and I'm admitly guilty of it myself. I try to remember that when looking at projects but it's human nature I guess.
