Nick: I've heard that the little leaks in the transfer case and transmission are called character. I find them annoying so I have I've spent some effort making mine dry on the outside. Here are a couple of things I've learned so far, and I think I'm 98% dry now.

1) speedi sleave all the rotating shafts, including the brake. The stainless surface I think is way smoother than the original machined surface.

2) When installing the new seals, make sure you use sealer on the outside perimeter of the seal before installing it. Permatex #2 seems to be the trick.

3) On the bolts that penetrate the case, permatex #2 seems to work better than the teflon based white thread sealers.

4) oil must splash all over the inside of these things when running... I ended up breaking down and getting two of Charle Talbert's stainless steel shift rails. Mine looked pretty good, but apparently they were not and a lot of oil made it out the top. (a lot being 2-3 drips per day after a good ride).

5) I used to be a big fan of Permatex Aviation gasket maker, but I've had better luck using the OEM gaskets and coating them with Permatex #2 before putting it back together.

Hope this helps. I sort of wonder what everyone else uses on the bolts that penetrate the casting and the gaskets?

Wayne
