Is the collar on crooked? Have you checked the oil level by removing the fill plug, see if it runs out?
Is there a leather washer/seal in there somewhere? In the screw in adapter that holds the pinion? ETA, the parts book calls the adapter a 'nut'. Maybe it is leaking due to not tight? No seals in t he book.
How about the breather vent nipple? It is under the parking band too. Overfill or 'fumey' oil?
