I spent over 13 years working on these things when I was regular Army and I never herd about burning pistons by running a multi fuel engine on gasoline. I do remember being told that extended use of gasoline as the primary fuel in these engines will dry out the orings and seals in the injector pump and the injectors. I also know from experience that if you mix your fuel say 80 to 90% diesel to 10 to 20% gasoline the engine will run hotter than with straight diesel, which might not be such a bad idea during the winter. Back in the late 70's in Germany I knew a guy that used to use a fuel mixture of about 85 to 90% diesel with about 8 to 14% gas and the remainder was cherry juice in his multi fuel 5 ton tractor and he claimed that the truck ran great.
