You mean that the clutch just slips? I assume you are putting the truck in low gear (low in the transfer case would be a good idea too) and then trying to start it. It's not good for the starter but I guess we have all done things like this in a pinch.

But you mean that the engine just spins as if it's in neutral? If that's the case, you have a different problem. That sounds like broken clutch springes or a completely shot clutch disk.

When was the last time this truck ran? Did this symptom just pop up while it sat there?
