2wd Town Wagons were first built in either 1953, 1954?.

4wd Town Wagons were first built in 1957, with 1957 being the most distinctive of all
Dodge models, one year only body style (excluding COE). The 58 has different sheetmetal from the front clip to the doors, but has a similar dash, and retained the 315 V8. My 57 TW PW got 16.5 mpg on the trip home from Santa Fe to San Antonio.

The 59 TW has a different dash, front fenders, inner cab steps (lost its running boards), and have hanging brake/clutch pedals. 8 lug axles were now used, and a DANA 60 rear replaced the corporate rear axle. The 318 Poly was used, in place of the previous 315. The 1960 is very much the same, with a slightly different grill.

The 1961-66 models were built on a different chassis, as the pickup truck style changed that year. They have a longer wheelbase,
different front fenders. The steering box was re-located behind the front axle. I believe the chassis and spring shackle design
is much stronger than the previous models.

The slant 6 replaced the flathead 6 engine in either 61 or 62.

I like the early 57-60 Power Giant era Town Wagons because of their distinctive-ness.
1959 is probably the best looking of the early ones, with better features than 57-58.

The later TWs are probably easier to live with, as far as parts are concerned.
