My parents towed my '49 flatfender 600 miles behind their diesel-powered motorhome. A standard tow bar was the connection between the Power Wagon and the motorhome.

The only thing that was a little scary at first was that the front wheels on the PW would unexpectedly turn hard to one direction or the other, basically leaving the truck to drag behind the motorhome. I've been told that this occurred because of the factory front end geometry, and that this is not uncommon with the old vehicles from that era. Fortunately, they discovered this while going about 5 mph down the dirt roads at the start of the trip. My dad ended up using a rope to tie off the steering wheel, and it was not a problem.

Funny (??) story. A friend used his '62 Ford 1/2-ton to tow another friend's '52 Dodge 1/2-ton pickup several hundred miles. They did not remove the drive shaft on the Dodge. At one point, they inadverdantly placed the truck in gear (high, I'm pretty sure), when they reached across the cab of the Dodge while at a rest stop. As they continued their journey, they noticed the truck was not trailing very well anymore. At a later rest stop, they happened to lean against the Dodge's hood, and noticed it was pretty warm. This is when they discovered the truck was in gear, and the flathead engine had been pumped full of gasoline, since the fuel pump was operating with the turning engine. In any case, they later drained the oil/gas, changed oil a couple of times and the truck is still running fine to this day, after some 15 years!
