I use a tapered pipe fitting.

Strip the carb and clamp the top surface to an angle plate. The drill it our on your drill press to the correct tap drill for the pipe fitting. Screw in the fitting with appropriate lock tite. Drill through the fitting for the right tap drill to suit the inlet fitting. Remove the carb body from the angle plate, and saw off the fitting. Then lay it upside down on the staionary disc sander talbe, and finish grind the surface. Or maybe you need to use a file if you don't have a sander.

Total cost, one $2 brass fitting and the usual tap set. No special drills or taps needed
