The 315's I've been involved with have a draft tube on the passenger side valve cover that extends down beside the bellhousing. It has a bracket that bolts to a bellhousing bolt. I don't know what kind of manifold you have but with a 315 having a valley pan and raised manifold runners it would be hard to cover a draft tube if there even was one. Sounds like you may have some blow by the rings. Did you get the front hubs and drums off yet? After thinking about it the nuts maybe 6 sided and you'll need a socket with six sides to get it off. I bought a socket and had to grind the outside edges off a bit to get it to fit inside the hub.
