My son Andy is an Army instructor currently on TDY to Djibouti, Africa. (We have a Naval base there I guess... who knew? : )
He sent me this message late yesterday...
"Starting in the afternoon here, but going off EST back home, the base here would sound the alarm commanding everyone's immediate freeze and attention then announce "At this moment, eleven years ago, (insert event listed below)." Then a bell would chime.
-plane #___ , hijacked by terrorists, hits first tower of the World Trade Center -plane #___ , hijacked by terrorists, hits second tower of the World Trade Center -plane #___ , hijacked by terrorists, hits the Pentagon -Tower __ collapses -plane #___ , hijacked by terrorists then re-taken by passengers, crashed into a Pennsylvania field -Tower __ collapses (after this last announcement Taps was played across camp). My roomie and I, in various states of dress, stepped out to render a salute. Very cool thing-so did most of the camp, no matter what they had been doing stepped out to salute. Gave me the
chills."
And keeping with the old M*A*S*H show, he ended with, "That is all".
