Real PW drivers don't need campers. They sleep on the ground next to their trucks, underneath if it's raining. When they go camping, they take a wool blanket, a canvas tarp, a .30-06, a frying pan, an ax, and matches. They certainly don't want to drag around something that's "loaded with luxuries such as hot water".

Any extra storage space is reserved for such items as the original front hubs in case the fancy lockers blow up, a mechanical distributor in case the electronic one gives up its magic smoke, several jerry cans of gas, since at 5 mpg the stock tank might have enough to get you out into the desert but probably not back again, a serious jack with assorted jacking blocks, a spare axle shaft if the trip looks like it might be rougher than usual, and of course a complete tool kit.
