Plymouth cars to 1954 had a 218 cid. In mid-year 1954, they introduced a 110-horsepower, 230 cid "Powerflow Six". In 1956, Plymouth offered a Power Pack for the six, which added a Stromberg dual throat carburetor, special intake manifold, and a larger air cleaner. Which Plymouth engine do you have?

Plymouth cars had a double action fuel pump to boost vacuum. I wonder if that affects manifold vs. carb vacuum connection.

There are a lot of interchange options. Any thoughts on using a centrifugal advance distributor?

My first Plymouth was a 1950 I got in 1958. One performance modification I made was a Mallory Dual Point distributor. I ran that 218 cid P-20 (Car Model) 100 mph once back in the days before there were radial tires and disc brakes. Once was enough. Ask me how they used to turn a crankshaft with the engne in the car. Drove that car three years and then sold it to a neighbor who drove it another four years with no complaints.

Give me the distributor ID and I can send you some tune-up specifications. Yep! I have an original Plymouth factory service manual.
