Last spring I posted a bit about my Dad's health and the miserable healthcare he was receiving in a nursing home in PA. In May I figured he had about three months to live.

After visiting him in Feb and seeing the deplorable conditions, I put him on a wait list for a great nursing home two miles from my house. A bed finally became available and my son and sister flew him up here on July 9. He looked like a death camp survivor, he couldn't walk, move his ankles, and was very much out of it mentally.

He has gained 20 lbs in seven weeks of the 40 lbs he lost since last Oct, is walking about 600', and his doctor is questioning the Alzheimer's diagnosis. The doctors in PA had him on two hallucinatory tropic medications, which he should not have been on. It is tough being a care provider from 3,000 miles away.

His recovery has been amazing. I have breakfast with him 2-3 times a week, visit at other times and bring him to our house on the weekends so he can visit with his 2-yr old great grandson.

We set goals for him to reach and one of them we will try today as he wants to walk up the steps to our home unassisted. I think he can do it and so does he. His big goal is to be able to get in my 61 PW and go for a ride; he loves the truck. I think we should be able to make that happen before the snow flies. Next summer his goal is to be able to fish with his great grandson, his grandson and me. Lord willing, he will accomplish that as well. It is so great to have my dad back!
