Tom,
You can still use your counter rotation box in a similar manner as the truck in the picture. Look at a 74-77 Ramcharger/Trailduster. Many had the counter rotation box on a big right angle bracket. the bracket bolted to the side of the frame and the box mounted atop the bracket. I am actually tinkering with that very setup right now. Stay tuned and I'll let everyone know if this is worth fooling with. If this works, and I think it will,this will be a big problem solver. First it is good reinforcement on the frame. Second, it permits angular changes of the steering column and opens the door to more column options. And even better yet, it not only makes a bunch of room in the engine compartment, it gets the steering box away from the heat of the engine.
