The distributor on my "new" motor (supposed to have been out of a plymouth car) has a vacuum advance on it, so I figure I better hook it up. None of my other rigs has such a modern innovation, so I'm wondering if there's anything special I need to know, or if I have problems, how will I know it's the vacuum advance's fault. For all I know it might not even work. I suppose I should suck on it with the vacuum pump a little and see if the points move at least. It seems like it must not be that important, since the M37s get by without it. Also, should I hook it straight to manifold vacuum or to the one vacuum port (tube) sticking out of the carb near the bottom, which I'm guessing might only get vacuum when the throttle opens a little bit? I think I'll start out with it hooked to the carb (the one off my old engine, since the new engine didn't have one) and see how that works. At this point I just need the thing to basically run so I can get some wood and work on my road before winter.
