When was the last time you adjusted the points?
The rubbing block wears down, and they don't open much any more. Easier to start with wide open points, harder with worn block. But narrow opening is good for high revs, less point float.
Dual point dist have it both ways, each one opens a lot, but one closes sooner, tricking the dwell into thinking the points are not floating. (off topic? too much info?)
