Good thought, Dave. It slipped my mind that I converted to an electric pump while building up from a bare chassis. At that time in the rebuild I added a pressure regulator, and a fuel return line to the tank. Trying to do that with the engine in place would be a challenge. You might consult Charles Talbert from M-Series Rebuild, or do a search at Gordon's site I seem to remember Charles talking about reliable fuel pumps that he has used in conversions. Best to you.
