The Willys CJ series at least up through the CJ5 were all available with a rear mounted PTO. The fuel tank on these vehicles is on top of the body tub under the drivers seat so clearance there was not an issue. They did, however have a centered rear differential which necessetated the use of a gear box to position the output shaft onto the vehicles longitudinal centerline (or very close to it). I have seen pictures of early CJ prototypes being tested at various agricultural colleges and universities to determine their suitability for farm work of various types and in various soils. Now that I think of it Willys was considering naming the eventual CJ2A the "Agrijeep" and marketing from 1945 on as can be seen in Fred Coldwells books indicates that farming utility was a prime consideration in the early Jeeps design and engineering.
