When I went through and relined my brake shoes with new pads, I changed the axle seals too thinking they were the reason the pads got soaked in the first place. After it was all together I parked the truck in front of the garage, in the sun for a few hours only to return and find a new puddle of fresh gear oil under one of the tires. I took both sides apart right where it sat and was able to keep the oil off the new pads. Only after staring at it after rolling it back into the garage did I realize that little mushroom looking thing at the top of the pumpkin had a purpose. It was full of sand or mud. That is how I learned.
