Anybody replaced their fuel pump diaphragm?

I don't mean putting in a kit, but disassembling the diaphragm assembly and making and installing a new diaphragm. Every one of my 230s has a different fuel pump on it. The one on the engine that threw the rod last fall was a freshly rebuilt good one but the rod hit the lever and destroyed it. The one I'm trying to use was out of a plymouth. I managed to clean up the innards and find enough parts here and there to get it in what looks like workable condition. The diaphragm is okay at the moment but it's old and stiff and I know it won't last 5 minutes once it starts pumping.

I may have to get a kit or just buy a new aftermarket non-rebuildable pump, but thought I'd see if making a new diaphragm and installing it is within the range of reason. I have some large diaphragms probably for some sort of industrial valve that I could cut down to size (not sure if they're gasoline-resistant or not), so the remaining question is how to "un-stake" the old assembly and stake the new one with what's left.
