I finally found one.
It’s a 1960 W300, that spent most of its life as a rescue truck in Pennsylvania.
I got a call at work a couple weeks ago. The person on the phone saying that he saw my “Wanted W300 ad”, and said “I think I have what you are looking for”. The best part was that he is only about 30 minutes from where I work. I went up to his farm Friday after work, and sure enough it was a Power Giant. I looked the truck over, saw that it was a W300, with a V8, and 4.88 gears, and winch. Good enough for a start, so we made the deal. The truck had a stake body on it, that the seller wanted to keep, so I asked him to give me a call when the bed was off, and I’d come get it.
I called Dennis Sherman to ask him if he could haul it for me. Dennis was heading up to Maine at the time, but willing to pick up the truck for me, when he got back. So last night after a long day at the dentist getting a root canal, I headed up to get the truck with Dennis. I think even Dennis was surprised at how nice this truck was. With the exception of the floors, and one spot in the driver’s door, the sheetmetal is solid. So we loaded up the truck, and headed home.
So the plan is to get the truck running and stopping, switch to single real wheels, instead of the duallies, and find a 9’ bed and rear fenders.
