All the stock trucks used low range 1st gear I believe. I have a 4bt so I have a little extra power but I have broken a rear axle shaft and a rear drive shaft in two attempts at truck pulls. If you watch the videos particuliarly Wills truck they are squatting and the tires bulging with the downward pull of the sled, which of course helps traction. My recommendation is to try and mount a hitch lower than the factory pintle hitch so the weight is shared by both axles. I think some competitve pulls limit the height of the hitch and may not allow you to compete anyway, although most will likely turn a blind eye to have a PW compete. No one elso broke so maybe my bad luck.
