that is a hydravac. they work great. my 61 has one. they are still in wide use around the world. in the medium trucks they kept using them for years after light duty went to car type vacuum boosters. you can still buy them. they come indifferent diamters, 7 inch, 9 inch etc.
they thing on the fiewall looks like half of a remote mounted fuel or oil filter?
