That heat riser is another story... The manifold is grey because I had it ceramic coated. My old heater riser valve was so stuck into place I had to cut it out. I had the parts for the new valve ceramic coated along with the manifolds, and when I got them back I took some of the ceramic off the shaft so I could TIG weld it to the flapper. I'm hoping it won't rust in place like the old one now. I still don't think I'll be moving that valve too often... Winter here in this part of Maryland is usually pretty mild.
