I've been pretty happy with my 56 FFPW but I've always had to run it with a bit of choke to make it happy. I had the local carb shop rebuild it two weeks ago, and it ran well, and the accelerator pump seemed to be working right. I was still searching though for an air leak since under light engine load conditions I had to use some choke to make it happy.

I sprayed some carb cleaner around the manifold, and that seemed fine. But when I sprayed it at the base of the carb, it almost stalled. I couldn't quite understand how that was leaking since the gaskets were new.

After looking at it a few times, I realized the front manifold carb bolt was too long, and it was hitting the carb when I tried to tighten it down. I took off about 1/4" from the stud, and guess what.. No more air leaks. Go figure. It had been like this for a long time!

Wow, no more vapor lock, fuel issues solved, transfer case and trans all fixed, overheating issues solved, now I guess I can put more time on the braking system!
