i used the one wire as I had it in our shop and it was converted to one wire AND low rpm kick on by our truck rebuilder. the command car has a voltmeter AND an ammeter. the one wire was the cleanest way to keep the function of both and keep the repro harness mods to a minimum. We used dozens of the one wire units in our gas delivery trucks and along with the electronic distributor conversions (used to be made by prestolite) got millions of miles of service. the powervert kit with the three wire alt that i have seen from VPW uses a positive power source to excite it and then it has a diode in line to prevent reversing current. i have seen numerous online debates about what is better - one wire vs three wire. its all relative. if mine goes bad, ill switch it. If i ever had to buy a three wire on the road, i can make that work. the reality is that i will never drive my command car far enough from home base that it would matter. In an emergency, I can call one of the tow companies that service my business and they can flatbed me home.
