use whatever makes you happy. as a weekly user of my command car, weather permitting, i have installed a pertronix module, a gm one wire alternator, power steering and disc brakes. I carry a fully prepped points style distributor in my spares box that can be installed before you find your points set and matchbook. a gm alternator is available anywhere as is the ford mustang power steering pump. point is to make your truck reliable and easy for YOU to work on. Personally, I believe that the quality of ww2 era ignition parts is not what it once was. by using an electronic module, you pick the brand, you get reliable starts and i believe better performance. i have eliminated the ballast resistor in my setup and although I am running a full repro wire harness, i use marine grade wires connectors and shrink tubing on my starting / battery circuit. I believe there are guys out there with 100% stock trucks that start, stop and turn fine. a slightly modified vehicle suits MY needs.
