A crazy man with a gun is always a very bad combination. I guess with 300 million people in this country, we're bound to have a crazed shooter rampage every few years. What can anyone do about it? We can't go around always expecting people to be shooting at us in a movie, a mall, or a school. Our chances of being killed driving to or from the place are way higher then our chances of being shot once we get there.
I hope the politicians can keep their fat mouths shut long enough to just let a crime be a crime and not try to spout off some clap-trap to get some votes out of it. I know they can't but I can still hope.
Personally, I have to wonder why a children's movie like Batman needs to have so much violence and gore in it, though. Between the rap/gang-banger stuff, the superhero movies for the suburban kids, and the plain old gory horror flicks, it seems like we immerse our kids in way more gratuitous violence than they need to see. I'm not saying it's the movie's fault that the guy went nuts, but it's at least ironic that he picked a violent movie at which to do his rampage.
