Correct, except you can drive this unit with a pto shaft. The one in the picture is in my WDX. This picture is looking at the driver's side of the unit. The sprocket that is on the rear was used to drive a winch behind the cab. It can be replaced with a yoke to drive a shaft if preferred.
Once connected by the shaft to the rear of your pto, you then can run the winch in the front and a pump, winch, or whatever in the rear with the unit. I can get the number off the ID plate if you want. The nice thing about this unit is it has two separate shift levers, so you can run one at a time or both, if application required. Mine is mounted to a piece of channel spanning from one side of the frame to the other side.
