They would never be able to do that on my '47. The frame number was burned off years ago from acid from the battery. There is no proof that the truck is what the door tag says it is.

On my '51, it was titled by the engine number as it came from Wisconsin. I pointed out the error (Illinois thinks it is an error, Wisconsin does not) and got the title changed. Big BIG HUGE mistake. I could have kept quite, Illinois would have never known the difference (nor even cared) as they would never have checked, and I could have kept the original title in the original owner's name for my historical records. Pointing out the discrepancy meant that I had to send the original title back to Wisconsin to get it changed and reisued. Now it is long gone and I have no way to get it back.

Even with the title change, pointing out the discrepancy here in Illinois, Illinois never did check any numbers anywhere - not on the engine - not on the door tag - and not on the frame.

I learned to keep my mouth shut and not ask questions anymore when it comes to these government issues. Every person you talk to in those offices gives you a different answer anyway.
