Yes, I will probably need to switch to something like that eventually. I don't need the sliding feature in this application. I'm not keen on taking the column apart and changing the end to fit a modern joint, but the current joint is not going to work long-term.

For today, though, I just need to somehow get what I have back together and have it hold until the end of the season. They need to run both trolleys wednesday through saturday through August, so there's no time to pull the steering box and have it rebuilt, which I should have done last year. It's got a ton of slop in it. I'm almost at the point of drilling a hole through the coupling and the shaft and putting a pin through it, or even welding them together, though that would mean torching the whole thing apart this fall. I'm hoping I can move the coupling to a better spot on the shaft, clamp the bejesus out of it, put lots of air in the front tires, and have it hold for 2 months.
