I don't doubt the oil-drinking at all. A bear probably assumes it's some kind of edible oil that would be fattening, and they love anything fattening. It probably doesn't taste like anything bad. I like the ether idea, and may leave a few cans out. Will probably need to wrap them in plastic rather than bacon, though, because my bears seem to love biting anything made of plastic. I'm kind of surprised your Alaskan bear didn't enjoy the ether buzz and come back for another hit, though. They're known to enjoy getting drunk.
