I enjoyed the discussion on backup power after storms. I am also in Maryland, and we have had more than our fair share of outages lately.
We make this unit at work, but any one of you could rig this up by getting an alternator and gas engine.

It is really handy just to have around for jump starts, battery charging, etc.
Used with an inverter, you could run as long as you had fuel.
