yea, I try to keep the house in a position to run independent of the grid, we are on a gravity water system, heat with wood pellets and heat water and cook with propane, so if the power goes off like it did a while back we can still survive with a minimum of discomfort. it doesnt take much to do this, a little prep during the times when everything is alright is the key. the last time the power was off was during the big ice storm 3or4 years ago, 15 million people out, we were out for eight days, I got by on a 350 watt gen set that I bought at a flea market for 20.00, military of course, 1969 vintage, still sits in the shop, just waiting to step up to the plate once more!!!
