That's the only advantage I know of. There's no sense in using grade 8 bolts to build a wooden deck or something like that, but deep inside a machine where failure would be catastrophic and checking them would be difficult, I can't imagine any reason not to use grade 8.

The only case I know of where grade 8 WOULD cause catastrophic failure is in a winch shear pin. The purists say to only use the proper factory sheer pin, but most guys seem to get by by using a grade 2 bolt. In real-world practice, the grade 2 bolt seems to always shear before anything more expensive brakes. However, there have been lots of winch drive lines twisted and other expensive things damaged by somebody using a stronger bolt for a shear pin.
