I agree. Google has gone over to the dark side. They are trying to out-do facebook in accumulating a database of everything they can about everyone's life. Like facebook, they're doing it in the hopes of "monetizing" it by selling ads, but I still don't like them doing it. Plus, there are lots of annoying little things they're changing -- making "shopping" into a pay site like Amazon and banning gun stuff, pretty much eliminating the web page cache so if you find something interesting but the site is dead or changed by the time you get to it you're out of luck, and putting so many ads and "paid search results" on the search page that it's starting to look like Altavista as that search engine was going into the toilet. There's no way I'd install Google's browser, Google's toolbar (or anyone's toolbar for that matter), or any other thing to make it easier for Google to try to sell me junk.

Whatever you do, don't sign up for any sort of Google account like gmail or google+. If you really want to keep your browsing truly anonymous get the "TOR Browser Bundle". It's a special version of FireFox set up to use a bunch of tricky stuff behind the scenes that makes it impossible for any marketeers or spies to figure out who was browsing which websites and who searched for what on Google. I use it from time to time and have never had the slightest problem with it crashing or hanging or doing any other weird thing. It does take a bit longer to respond because it sends your data all over the world in encrypted form.
