The shape, size, inflation and deflation speeds are all customized for each application. The sensors and electronics are also calibrated for their respective vehicles. So a "universal" airbag would probably not work. Not to mention the liability involved for the company.

But the airbag is really only a secondary issue. The big problem is crash performance. There are no crumple zones, or bracing designed to dissipate energy and protect the passenger compartment.

A roll cage and some door re-enforcement bars would help, but you can only do so much within the structure of the truck.
