when we are on these large campaign fires is for the president, ANY president, to show up. On the Witch fire in San Diego in 2008, Busch showed up and we had just come of the line after a non stop 97 hour shift. There was no relief for us as there were NUMEROUS other fires going sucking up resources. And with all the homes threatened and already burning, we didn't leave the line for 97 hours. Busch showed up, and base camp was in lock down just as we got in. We weren't allowed to leave for over 6 hours while he toured the camp and learned about what we do. My strike team leader finally got in a fight with a secret service guy saying this is ^&@($^!$, we haven't slept in almost 4 days, and now we are stuck here, let us leave so we can get some rest. They made a special exit for us and we left. Camp stayed in lock down for an additional 3 hours past that.
yeah, not a good thing for them to come just as a photo op and political statement. You wanna make a statement???? QUIT CUTTING FUNDING FOR FIRE!!
